Fashion Show Will Support House of Concern

LBDjpgThe Seneca County House of Concern and Hotel Clarence Announce May Fashion Show and Luncheon Fund-Raiser

The Seneca County House of Concern has partnered with the Hotel Clarence to bring our community a unique opportunity to blend fashion with the elegant setting of the Clarence. The Traveling Little Black Dress luncheon and fashion show will run two consecutive days, Friday May 17 and Saturday May 18 in the dining room of the Clarence. The event is being held to help meet the growing challenge of serving the hungry right here in Seneca County. All net proceeds from the event will go to funding the food pantry at the House of Concern.

“This is our way of giving our supporters an opportunity for some great entertainment and outstanding food and help us meet the needs of our hungry neighbors right here in our own backyard. When Sharon Hoatland offered her expertise at creating high quality fashion shows, we jumped at the chance,” says HOC Executive Director Diane Draheim.

In addition to the luncheon and fashion show, there will be special auction items and clothing and accessories displays. Guests will be greeted by tuxedo-clad ushers, and models will show a variety of clothing styles highlighted by the featured “Traveling Little Black Dress.”

The show will feature local models and clothing from area retailers. “The response from potential sponsors has been terrific,” says Committee Chair Terri Ferguson. “We expect to make this an annual event. We intend for this to be the ‘Must Attend’ event of the Season.”

The House of Concern has been facing unprecedented demand for services at the same time funding from government sources is being cut. In January of 2013, the United Way partner agency was responsible for providing more than 17,000 meals locally. “The HOC Board has been proactively expanding our profile in the community, partnering with businesses and social services agencies and increasing our fund-raising activities. It’s really the only way we are going to meet the growing challenge of providing food security for folks right here in Seneca County,” says Board President Stephen Beals. “The event committee has put together an impressive group of volunteers to make this a great event, and we’d be happy to hear from anyone who would like to get involved.”

The luncheon will be held from 11:00-1:00pm and tickets will be available beginning April 1 at the House of Concern, Woman Made Products, the Copy Shop, Sinicropi Florists, the Cornell Ag and Tech Center in Geneva, and on-line from the House of Concern web site www.houseofconcern.org. Cost is $35 for the luncheon and show.

Challenge Stretches Donations Further

The Seneca County House of Concern will stretch their funds further with support from the 2012 Feinstein Challenge. The fund matches a percentage of all donations up to 1 million dollars on a national basis.

The Seneca County House of Concern will be participating in this challenge again this year, and is hoping to beat their 2011 donation totals.  Last year during the challenge period, the HOC received 3,208 food items and $19,282.25 in donations. Executive Director Diane Draheim is hoping with the help of a supportive community, even more can be raised this year.

The House of Concern has seen a sharp increase in the number of people who need food assistance over the last few months and is currently serving more than 300 families most months. It is difficult to keep the shelves stocked.

To be part of the challenge all you have to do is to indicate that you want your donation to be counted in the Feinstein Challenge total.

This is the 15th consecutive year that Alan Feinstein will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies nationwide using it to help them raise funds during March and April.
