Art Contest Benefits HOC

A Sidewalk Chalk Art contest benefitting The House of Concern will be a new addition to the Seneca Falls Business Association’s Super Saturday Sidewalk Festival scheduled for Saturday June 11th.

Participants of all ages are encouraged to try their hand at creating works of art using chalk and soft pastels. Participants will be divided into 4 categories: Adult, High School, Middle School and Elementary. The Sidewalk Chalk Art creations can be done individually or as a team effort. Contestants will have two hours to complete their art, from 11am – 1:00 with judging by the public from 1pm -1:30pm for the People’s Choice prize, and by a panel of judges between 1:30pm – 2:00pm, after which the winners in all categories will be announced.

“We are hoping to discover some real artists among those who come out to participate, ” said Diane Draheim, The House of Concern Director and contest coordinator for the SFBA, “so sign–up and show your talent to the town and have some fun while doing it!”

Registration for participants is $3, or a donation of food items for The House of Concern pantry. Registration forms can be picked up at Downtown Deli, Sinicropi Florist, WomanMade Products and at The House of Concern in Seneca Falls. Registration will also take place on the day of the event from 10am – 11am… space permitting. Participants should supply their own chalk.

Additional events and activities planned for Saturday’s 10am – 3pm festival include free Face Painting at ZuZu’s Café. Snowcones & cotton candy at the Habitat for Humanity Women Build booth. Blood pressure screening and fire truck display provided by the new combined Fire Department. Singer/songwriter Brad Backman will be performing folk and blues tunes from 12-3pm.
Shop, Tour, Eat is the theme of the day. In addition to sidewalk sales offered by local businesses shoppers may purchase plants, books, baseball cards and comics, music memorabilia, painted furniture and much more from visiting artisans and vendors. Sidewalk cookouts by Fall St. restaurants, free admission to museums, and of course free balloons and popcorn, will add to the festive atmosphere.

Super Saturday will take place on June 11th, 10am – 3pm. For more information about the SFBA, email sfba@senecafalls.com
